Run the Hull Identification Number (HIN) before you spend time on a physical inspection — it's a quick way to catch a stolen or lien-encumbered boat before you invest any more time in it.

Pontoon tube condition — dents, corrosion, and pinhole leaks
Wiring inside pontoons (can corrode from inside out)
Engine size vs. hull rating — underpowered pontoons are sluggish
Decking material and any soft spots in the flooring

New vs. Used
Used pontoons offer excellent value — look for 2015+ models from Bennington, Sun Tracker, Harris, or Manitou with documented service. New boats offer better warranties and more modern safety features.
